The Hettinger opened in August of 2002. The town of Hettinger had been without a movie theatre since 1984. The theatre is located on the corner of Main Street and Second Avenue.
The Hettinger Foundation was formed as a not for profit group to raise funds for the construction of the theatre. They plan to donate the profits from the theatre to the community.
The theatre also has a stage that is used by the community for seminars, live performances and music concerts.
The theatre has a plain but modern lobby with a large concession area. The screen measures 11.6' by 27.6'. The auditorium walls are lined with a Banjo Boxer fabric in white and blue.
