The Kota opened in 1949. The exterior is almost a colonial style with red brick and white trim. It has a flat panel marquee built on an angle to the theatre. Just the normal small town theatre with a small auditorium. Box office in on the left of the four front entrance doors.

The theatre is owned by the Sakakawea Area Council for the Arts who took over operations in 1993. It is operated by an all volunteer staff, the money from the theatre goes to fund other arts functions in the area.
