The AMC Santa Anita 16 opened on Friday, October 1st, 2004. This theatre is located in the Santa Anita Mall’s new wing, between Macy’s (which was Robinsons-May when the theatre opened) and J.C. Penney.
This theatre replaces an old GCC four-plex that closed in the mid-1990’s (today that site is an Old Navy).

Boy, I guess this means I’m truly getting older. I remember going to the GCC four-plex umpteen times when I was a kid. “Tommy”, “Logan’s Run”, “Phantom of the Paradise” et al.
I frequented the GGC theatres when I was a child. My family would go to the Racetrack and drop me off to the mall. They were small but they played first run movies. I remember the run of “Grease” was forever.
One word, beautiful. You would never think that there could be 16 screens in there, but they really did it. As soon as you approach the theater doors there are little details that sets AMC Santa Anita apart. The first being the various quotes from some of the most memorable movies ever made. Then, almost naturally, you look up to see paintings of those same movies' characters. Wow! The new theater is rightly located upstairs and away from most of the mall madness. They have their own escalator that they share with another excellent addition, Dave and Buster’s.
I attended the old GCC only once to see the Scorsese version of “Cape Fear”. Typical of mall quads the theaters were nothing more than little crackerboxes. I am looking forward to checking this one out.
I was also only in the old theater once when I was visiting a relative near there but the theaters were terrible.
I should check the new one out next time I am in the area.
They WERE terrible, but when you’re a kid, you didn’t care. It was
THE MOVIES!! I remember when “Grease” played there! And “The Shining”. “Coma”. “King Kong”…..
I haven’t been to the new wing of the mall, but a friend went and said it was truly beautiful architecture!! A mall?!?! Apparently so!
The new Senior Operations Manager at the AMC Santa Anita 16 came from the theatre I work at, the AMC Neshaminy 24, in Bensalem, PA. He started with AMC at the AMc (Former GCC) Franklin Mills 14, in Philadelphia, PA
This complex was designed by STK Architects.
I remember the old theater, saw Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, Splash, and others I don’t remember there.
I went to see Pooh’s Heffalump Movie here, And the auditorium was really cold. Then in 2006 I saw “Superman Returns” here as well, I Don’t remember seeing any movie here after that
