The Plaza Theatre is Calgary’s oldest operating cinema. It was a conversion of a former garage and opened January 10, 1935 with Will Rogers in “Mr. Skitch” & Teddy Joyce in “Business is a Pleasure”. It had 428 seats. Located in the city’s Kensington shopping district, just on the outside of downtown, the Plaza Theatre might not be the fanciest or most up-to-date theatre in Calgary, but that’s the charm. What it lacks in technology, it makes up for in quality and personality. And the popcorn’s pretty darned good, too.
