I added newspaper (front page) from opening night, to photo section.

The Eaton Theatre opened January 7, 1931.“ Whoopee” staring Eddie Cantor was the first movie shown there. Our website is “”. It was twinned around 1986 when Rick Dedolph bought it from the Beechler family. It is currently owned by his daughter. I have been the manager for approximately 16 years. I have a copy of the newspaper from opening night hanging in our lobby. I do not recall that it ever closed. That is something I’d have to research more. We are now upgraded to digital projectors. :)

Given the 1931 opening, it is likely that the Eaton Theatre is the proposed house mentioned in the June 1, 1930, issue of The film Daily:

“Charlotte, Mich. — Work on the theater planned here is expected to start next month, according to R. V. Day, of St. Johns, architect.” on December 9, 2011 at 10:11 pm

According to this website, the theatre opened in 1931: view link

That was a demo site I had created for the theater years ago, because their site was horrible when it was up. It didn’t give you the info you wanted, it plagiarized IMDB’s descriptions and gave no credit, and was in general a pain to navigate, on top of being extremely dirty HTML with random tags strewn through it. When I offered it though, they didn’t seem interested in using it, and have since let two domains lapse as well. I go back and forth debating keeping it up to date as a public service. :P

Those features are from 2007, now that I look at it, so perhaps the site was a project that someone gave up on during the process.

This is the theater website. It’s a little incomplete, which you will see rather quickly if you navigate through the site.
