Cody Theatre

This vintage single-screen movie house opened July 8, 1937 with Wallace Beery in “Slave Ship”. It had 672 seats. Later reduced to 550 seats, it was still open screening first-run films until January 2008.

The building has been renovated and reopened as a live theatre, with classic movies which by 2020 had become a special events venue.

There is an outstanding view of the Cody taken by “elmada” in Lost Memory’s comment above this one and a November 2009 photo of the Cody Theater here.

Seen briefly in the the tv series “Tony Robinson’s Wild West”(episode 3), outside the building and then inside the building too(Sir Tony Robinson is seen watching the 1903 movie short “The great train robbery”.

This place is now what amounts to an event venue available to rent for parties, weddings, concerts, plays, and even movies. For 6 weeks in the summer the Rocky Mountain Dance Theater puts on their live Wild West Spectacular which evidently even took place during the summer of 2020 despite Covid. ( codywildwestshow.com ). From the theaters own website it does not appear that the theater produces any events, only hosts rentals. The site says that movies can be run but does not specify if the equipment is for film, digital, or just a projector to run DVD’s.

Four pictures from my visit in September 2020 are in the photo section.
