Lyric Theatre

Viewing: Photo | Street View

The Lyric Theatre opened in 1929, on Rush Avenue, on Courthouse Square, with a seating capacity of 409. It operated until 1977 when it closed. It would remain vacant for over two decades until 1999 when the Ozark Arts Council acquired it and began a renovation project on the theater to bring it back to its original Art Deco appearance. Renovation was completed in 2007.

The Lyric Theatre’s most remarkable features are the beautiful luminescent murals on the walls of the theatre, painted by Depression-era hobos, who did the work in exchange for food and shelter.

The theater now seating 365, hosts live performances and concerts, and well as screening classic movies.
