There are plans to completely renovate the theater and make it suitable for many types of events from stage shows, concerts, movies old and new, possably weddings and receptions and yes pipe organ and other musical concerts may be possable. The theater organ is for sure. Check out the website of the new owner for more details. Lots of work needed but a job very possable and worth doing. Should be a great attraction for this city of 5,000 and the surrounding communities. Be sure to go to www.texastalkies.com Talk to your friends and neighbors and help make this a reality.
Forgot to mention click each photo to enlarge. Also the Texas closed as a movie theatre in Feb. 1983.

It is my understanding that this theatre is undergoing renovations and I have been told by a local teacher at McGregor High School that the owner has secured a theatre organ and is planning to have in installed.
Would love to have an update to this since I am currently working in McGregor. If this theatre is to be renovated, I would like to help volunteer.
Another 2008 photo is here.

The Texas Theater was recently sold by Mr. Henry Smith’s family and the new owner is planning to restore and reopen the theater.
This is a photo of the Texas Theater in McGregor.
The ground that the Texas Theatre was built on was the original home of the Opera House Theatre, built in 1912 it is probably the oldest theatre in existance in the state of Texas. At the time it was built there was no such thing as a marquee and the attractions were painted on the plate glass windows in the front of the theatre. The box office was located in the lobby. It was built by Jake Smith who moved from Atlanta, Ga. to McGregor. His mother sold tickets seven days a week until she passed away in 1943. When the Ritz Theatre opened in McGregor Mr smith remodeled his theatre and renamed it the Texas. It had a small balcony for minorities to view the movies. In 1982 Mr. Henry Smith closed the theatre.
