The Tivoli Theater was one of three threaters with the same name in Kansas City. This opened October 2, 1926 with Jean Hersholt in “The Old Soak” with 1,000 seats. This neighborhood theatre was located on Indiana Avenue at E. 25th Street in the Montgall Park neighborhood. The small entrance was of red brick with a multicolor shale overhang. The theatre closed on March 12, 1954 with a triple bill of Yvonne de Carlo movies: “Salome, Where She Danced”, with John Wayne in “Island in the Sky” & with Edward G, Robinson in “Vice Squad”. It was converted into a roller skating rink which was not a success. It then became the home of Wisong Sign Co. The front of the building has since been demolished. The lower walls of the auditorium are in use enclosing an auto repair shop.

A photo of the theatre in it’s current use as Wisong Signs can be seen at:

It was a nice theater and beautiful when lit up at night. The front half of the theater was demolish and the back half became a plumbing supply store – that part of the building is still standing.
I am pretty sure that the Theater was converted to a roller rink but still retained the marquee and much of the movie theater decor – similar to what was horribly done to the beautiful Gladstone Theater.
This opened on October 2nd, 1926. Some grand opening ads in the photo section.
Should be listed as demolished.
The Tivoli Theatre closed at the expiry of a leasing period on March 28, 1954 with a triple feature of Yvonne DeCarlo in “Salome, Where She Danced,” John Wayne in “Island in the Sky” and Edward G. Robinson in “Vice Squad.” Not a bad way to go. and On April 21, 1954, owner Herman Illmer received permission to convert the venue into the Tivoli Roller Rink. A 1980s fire gutted the former theater.
