The St. Clair Theatre, also known as the Odeon, opened in 1926. The theater could seat about 1000 and was located in a two-story building with two storefronts and apartments upstairs. The theater stood on St. Clair Avenue between 8th and 9th Streets.

Any additional information on the St. Clair would be greatly appreciated.

The area that the theatre was located was completely demolished when Interstate 64 went through in 1965/1966. The St. Clair had been closed since the early 50’s though and the last time we were by it in late 1957 the marquee was barely hanging on on one side. The entire building was boarded up.

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat account of the fire of October 16, 1947 said the theatre was destroyed. The account also said the theatre was 40 years old (meaning it possibly opened in 1907?) and at one time was known as the Odeon.
