The Alert Theatre was located in Essex which is located on the Eastern border of Baltimore City. The Alert Theatre opened in the mid-1930’s seating just under 350. It lasted until television took its toll on the neighborhood house and it closed in the late-1950’s. The building is now used for retail.

The current occupant is a pawn shop called the Essex Jewelry Exchange.

So….Let me elaborate. The Essex Jewelry Exchange has an address of 526 Eastern BOULEVARD. The address given above for the theater is 526 Eastern AVENUE. If the address above is correct, this can’t be pawn shop. If it is a pawn shop, the street name above is incorrect. So, which one is it?

If you try to map out Eastern Avenue, it automatically changes it to Eastern Boulevard, so the address in the description would be incorrect.

There is also an Eastern Avenue but the address number above won’t map to it. I think that Avenue was changed to Boulevard at some point and the street name above should be updated.

As LM said this is now Eastern Blvd. The building is now used by Accurate Industries.

Eastern Avenue becomes Eastern Boulevard at the bridge over the Back River (a few blocks to the west). A mile or so east Old Eastern Ave. branches off from the main road; even further out Eastern Blvd. becomes Eastern Ave. Extended (in the Bengies Drive-In area).

Thanks Randy for clearing up the problem with Eastern. So all Ken Roe needs to do is change the adddress from Avenue to Boulevard in the Header.
