Located in Southgate to the southwest of Detroit, near Wyandotte. The Fort Drive-In opened on May 4, 1950 with the 3 Marx Brothers in “Love Happy”. It was run by Nicholas George and Cooperative Ct., as was just about every theatre in the area “downriver” from Detroit it seems. The Fort George Drive-In had an initial capacity of 1,200 cars; after a renovation in 1977, it had a capacity of 1,300 cars. When the screen was damaged by high winds in 1990, it was torn down in 1991.

By the way, as you can see from the photos on the page that Lost Memory posted, this started out as the Fort Drive-in. When Nicholas George bought it, he renamed it the Fort George.
I was employed at the Fort George Drive-In from 1989-90. It stayed open through the entire 1990 season, as the storm damage didn’t occur until 1991. The owners decided against investing in any repairs and put the property up for sale instead. The structure wasn’t brought down until summer 1992. I believe it occurred in August.
A Meijer now sits on the site, on Fort Street south of Eureka and north of Pennsylvania roads.
Opened on 4th of May 1950 with “Love Happy”.
