“Bricks Flix” at the US 23 DI was a rousing success
FLINT, MI – The US 23 Drive in Theatre was filled up with mostly classic vehicles to kick off Back to the Bricks with the Bricks Flix last Tuesday night. Besides the cars parked at the drive-in, there were classic vehicles parked alongside, in front of and across Fenton Road from the drive-in. Disc Jockey Bob Steel played the oldies until shortly before the movie “The World’s Fastest Indian” started shortly after 9 p.m. on two of the drive-in’s three screens.
More photos of the event can be found on the Back to the Bricks Facebook page and there is a video report from WJRT.

“Windjammer” screening at Cinerama Dome
HOLLYWOOD, CA — Sunday September 5, at 11:30am, “Windjammer, The Voyage of the Christian Radich”. The film follows the adventures of Norwegian cadets on their 238 day training cruise. “Windjammer”, produced by Louis de Rochmont premiered at the Chinese Theatre and was filmed in CineMiracle, a 3 strip photographic process similar to Cinerama.
The version playing at the Dome is a high definition digital print, filling the Cinerama screen, with a RCA 7 channel soundtrack. The print used for remastering was badly faded with a Norweigan soundtrack from the Swedish Film Institute. The remastering was directed by Cinerama historian David Strohmaier and produced for Cinerama by John Sittig. Tickets are available at ArcLight.

Capitol Theatre commemorated with giant mural
MILTON, PA — Several large murals honoring the history of Milton, PA have been commissioned by T.I.M.E. (The Improved Milton Experience) Main Street Manager, Deb Owens, by Altoona-based artist Pamela Snyder-Etters according to the Sunbury (PA) Daily Item reporter Cindy O. Herman.
The first completed mural honors the restoration and re-opening of the Capitol Theatre, 55 Broadway, Milton, PA, on August 6th 1972. The massive restoration project was by The Cinesathe Group (Jack Oberleitner, Thomas Poling and others). The colorful mural depicts the front of the theatre and renderings of Shirley Temple, W.C. Fields, Laurel and Hardy and King Kong, all of which were represented on the opening night extravaganza which included gifts for all “first nighters” including orchids for the ladies.
A town celebration is planned to honor the Theatre, The Cinestage Group, and the artist is planned for the Summer of 2011.

The US 23 D.I. will host Bricks Flix with the free film, “The World’s Fastest Indian.”
FLINT, MI — The annual Back to the Bricks cruise weekend will kick off on Tuesday, August 17 with the Bricks Flix Free Drive-in Movie at the US 23 Drive in Theatre. The cruise night begins at 5 p.m. with a car show with 600 drive-in spaces reserved for vintage cars. The remaining 600 spaces are open to the general public. There will be a display of vintage Indian motorcycles which fits in with the free movie starting at dusk, “The World’s Fastest Indian,” rated PG-13.
The idea for a showcase event at the drive-in theater came after nearly 400 cars showed up to view a movie on a large inflatable screen in the parking lot of Whiting Auditorium during last year’s Back to the Bricks cruise weekend.
At the time, the US.. 23 Drive-in wasn’t open.
“When we heard the drive-in was open this year, we said we were going to give it a shot,” said Bricks Chairman Al Hatch said.
Additional details from the Flint Journal.
