Downtown L.A. theater and office building to be turned into hotel
LOS ANGELES, CA — Still no word on exactly what the theatre will be used for, but the United Artists Theatre will be part of the new Ace Hotel. Summer 2013 is the target for opening.

Bing Crosby Theater to be sold
SPOKANE, WA — Citing a need for an infusion of energy, the Bing Crosby Theater’s owner is putting it up for sale this spring. Some improvements will need to be made and he will probably be looking for at least $1 Million.

Washington Heights locals want to save neighborhood theater
NEW YORK, NY — What started as simply a Facebook page to save the beloved Coliseum Cinemas has now opened a wider dialogue about the possibilities for the space. Some want it to also serve as a performing arts center for culture barren uptown. Now, only if they can get the owners on board as well.

New movie theater may debut in old Macy’s site
NEWTON, MA — A former Macy’s may find new life as a high-end movie theater. Desperate to pump some life into an aging shopping center, WS Development is exploring building a seven screen complex with each having 100 seats and in-theater dining.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Following an extensive renovation two years ago, the Theatres at Canal Place are stepping up their game again. This time, the theatre will practically double in size with the addition of four screens.

Lee Overstreet, friendly face in Kentucky Theatre’s box office, dies
LEXINGTON, KY — While she had only worked in the box office since 1999, Lee Overstreet grew up going to the Kentucky Theatre. She recently passed away but as you can see in this piece from the Herald Leader, she left quite a mark on those around her. It’s a touching story about how one woman’s journey brought her around the world before she finished her life doing what she loved, working at a movie theater.

Traverse City MI Film Festival tops $500,000 goal
TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN — The Traverse City Film Festival, which owns the State Theatre, has topped its $500,000 goal according to the festival’s founder Michael Moore. The money was needed to balance its budget and to make improvements and repairs to the theater which dates back to 1916.

Remnants of historic movie theater on Port Angeles tour
PORT ANGELES, WA — The former Elwha Theater is now part of a tour of historic Port Angeles by Heritage Tours. Portions of the theatre were uncovered by the new owners, Captain T’s Shirt Shoppe, who will feature them in the new location for their business.

Movie star prints' futures not set in cement
HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Los Angeles Times takes a look at the growing number of handprint ceremonies at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This past year, there were the most ceremonies since the theatre’s opening year as its new owners try to draw more awareness as well as business to the building.
