Come for the smut, but stay for the classics
BROOKLYN, NY — The Brooklyn Paper did an interesting feature on the unique programming model of the Cinema Kings Highway. Taking advantage of a loophole in the city’s rules on adult establishments, they are able to show adult films on one screen while they present standard classics on another. All of this sets the stage for a very interesting mix of clientele.

Wurlitzer organ breathes new life into silent movies
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — The Edison Street Organ Loft is delighting audiences thanks to its unique musical accompaniment. The organ was built with parts from instruments around the state and provides a backdrop to their silent film series.

Franklin Theatre to be sold
ALLENTOWN, PA — After almost a century in the business, the Franklin Theatre was sold the other week. Its current owner, could not afford to operate it anymore and the new owner has not revealed plans for its future.

Appalachian Cinema moving towards city ownership
BOONE, NC — Since closing four years ago, the Appalachian Cinema has been in a state of limbo. Things are looking better though as it appears the city will be able to purchase it and then turn it over to the Downtown Development Association. The plan then would be the restore it to its original grandeur and make it a performing arts center.

Front Street development may get theatre
HARTFORD, CT — There were high hopes for the new entertainment district at Front Street but none have become a reality, yet. It looks though like a movie theater will be part of it, with construction supposed to start in the next couple weeks. The theater will have a four screens with a mix of offerings.

Sittin' in the front row
In his blog in the Chicago Sun Times the other week, Roger Ebert discussed cinema seating preferences. He used to prefer middle but he’s gravitated towards the back over the years for easy bathroom access.

PF theater goes discount
POST FALLS, ID — Reluctantly, the Post Falls Cinema is going discount. They want to provide the best experience for their patrons but in these economic times, they felt that would entail more value.

Mercy family plans to build Dinner Theatre in downtown Yakima
YAKIMA, WA — After the Uptown Plaza recently, the future of that parcel was in doubt. Now, Yakima Theatres Inc. has announced a new four-screen dinner theatre and pub to be built in its place.
