Met Cinema in Oakhurst closes after 26 years
OAKHURST, CA — The owners of the MET Cinema just couldn’t handle the financials of the theatre anymore and decided to close two weeks ago. It leaves the area with no other cinema.

Lincoln Theatre pursuing many options to go digital, stay open
KALISPELL, MT — The 88 year-old Lincoln Theatre is facing hard times because the owners needs to raise funds for a digital projector but they’re exploring other options. In addition to fundraising for a projector, they’re open to staging stand-up comedy or even project DVD’s in order to make ends meet.

AMC to take over, renovate former Dickinson Penn Square 10
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — AMC will become the operator of the Penn Square 10 and some big enhancements. Over the next six months, they plan on installing stadium seating and updating the concession stands.

Digital Cinema Destinations may be eyeing acquisition of Clearview
Bud Mayo at Digital Cinema is interested in purchasing the mainly suburban Northeast chain, Clearview Cinemas. He actually founded the chain in 1994 before selling it to Cablevision five years later. He’s now looking to expand his brand and with only ¼ of the screens converted to digital, Cablevision has been looking for a buyer.

O'Neil Cinemas opens new 12-screen theater in Epping
EPPING, NH — The new 12-screen O'Neil Cinemas opened in Brickyard Square last weekend. They feature all-digital projection as well as D-Box seating in select auditoriums.

New book chronicles New Orleans theaters
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Rene Brunet Jr., operator of the Prytania Theater recently completed a book on the history of New Orleans theaters, “There’s One in Your Neighborhood: The Lost Movie Theaters of New Orleans.” It contains the histories of over 100 cinemas in town.

Adirondac summer cinema closes and will be demolished; dates to 1926
INLET, NY — What local historians consider the first Quonset-type movie theater in the country, the Tamarack Movie House is set to the be torn down. It closed Labor Day Weekend after years of declining revenue and they plan to build a video arcade, miniature golf course and restaurant on the site.
