  • Return of the B Movies

National Amusements is launching another series of
Attack Of The B-Movies this Thursday, September 20th.

The original series, which ran in August in five of National Amusement’s Cinemas locations in MA and RI, proved to be so successful that the series is being expanded to 20 theaters in 8 states.

It might be fun to see these movies again and reminisce about seeing them originally in our local movie palace.

McGREGOR, TX — The Studio Pros Inc. is very proud to announce their purchase of the 1912 Texas Theatre on June 7th 2007 from the Smith family (original owners). Over the next 12 to 18 months, the Texas will be undergoing extensive ground up restorations allowing The Studio Pros to relocate their offices inside the building. As well, we’ll be completely refurbishing all of the theatre’s live & 35mm capabilities and adding an extensive array of newer media technologies to complement the old.

For more information and continual updates on the progress of restoration of the Texas Theatre please check the official web site.

We also wish to thank CT for all of their dedicated efforts with theatre history. Over the past 4 years this web site has offered priceless information and insight to us and is one of the top 3 influences in our decision to take on the challenges of restoring and preserving the Texas theatre’s history. We feel very proud and blessed to be a part of this. Once again we thank all of the folks at CT and all of its dedicated contributors. • Beach Theatre in Miami Beach Becoming a TAO Restaurant & Lounge

MIAMI BEACH. FL — The Beach Theatre on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road is being converted into an upscale restaurant and lounge known as “Tao.” It is still in the construction phase, but should be completed soon.

If you stand on the corner of Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road and Drexel Avenue and look to the southeast, you can still see the structure that housed the screen of one of the finest movie theaters in the country, the Beach Theatre. It’s been decades since this movie palace ran its last feature, but now a new vibe is coming to 420 Lincoln Road in the form of the ritzy TAO Restaurant & Lounge.

Miami Beach will the third in a series of upscale TAO eateries that include East 58th Street in New York and another at the Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, all of which operate under the watchful eye of TAO’s signature 20-foot tall golden Buddha statues.

The Colonial Theater By ‘Jack’s Kid’ Dennis O'Rear

HARRISBURG, PA — I am Dennis O'Rear the son of John “Jack” O'Rear the manager of Harrisburg’s Colonial Theater from about 1934 until his death in 1957. I have some pleasant memories of the theater which I’d like to share. When I visited there I was called Jack’s son or Jack’s kid.

My dad was born in 1892 and after graduating from a military high school in Kentucky began a career as a theater manager. He left me an old scrap book of his that describes his career as a vaudeville and movie theater manager in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Many of the places and events here are obscure to me. Prior to coming to Harrisburg he worked in Allentown (Rialto), Bethlehem (Kurtz and Colonial), and Reading (Rajah) along with other locations and theaters.

  • Lebowsky Center volunteer cleanup held September 8.

OWOSSO, MI — A construction cleanup work bee was held by volunteers at the Lebowsky Center on Saturday, September 8. The cleanup was held to prepare for the rebuilding of the fire damaged and partially demolished theater.

The Owosso Community Players newsletter dated August 2007 gives an update of the rebuilding progress which also gives details about the recent donation of the adjacent building.

The Argus-Press reports on the work as well.
