Can anyone help decipher cinema b.o. records?

As a part of a research project I am working on I am working on a Box Office Ledger belonging to the Interstate Theater Chain, dating from the 1950’s. Partway through the ledger the weekly attendance figure changes from an overall figure to one that is broken down into different categories, A, C and P. So, for example, the entry for W/E July 3, 1954 reads
    1669A
    698C
    27P

    2385T

Can anyone give any help regarding the meanings of these categories A, C, and P?

    Many thanks,

  • Eldert & Knickerbocker

I was so excited to see my family’s grocery store’s name on this site! My father (Giuseppe Costa) Joe, owned the grocery store on Knickerbocker and Eldert St. In fact, my grandfather owned the building. I hated to see the building torn down – it was so beautiful. We sold the store and moved to Massapequa in 1961.

I have such great memories of playing handball against the wall and eating the best fruit and pastries ever! I visited a few years ago and couldn’t get into the chuch (St. Martin’s) I would love to go inside – it was the center of my whole childhood -parents married there and I attended school thru 8th grade. If anyone remembers the “Costa” girls – please write!

[Ed. note- I assume this was brought up because of the sight’s relation to the Alhambra Theatre.]

    Close call at Community

FAIRFIELD, CT — Our local paper related the sad news that the Community Theater, a local fixture since it first opened in 1920, and currently run by a volunteer group, suffered an electrical problem this Saturday (7/23/07). A fire alarm sounded, and the article stated that sparks from an electrical panel forced the evacuation of all patrons. The article went on to say that it was not known when the theater would re-open.

    Ritz Theatre restoration almost complete

WELLINGTON, TX — A five-year restoration effort to save the Ritz Theatre is almost complete. Historic Wellington, Inc., a local preservation group, obtained nearly $2.5 million in private funds to rebuild the 1928 mission-revival building in this small Panhandle town.

The facility is now operated by Wellington Ritz Theatre, Inc. and will be open for movie showings by mid August. The Ritz also will play host to a concert series, and will be one of two satellites of the $30 million Globe-News Center for Performing Arts in Amarillo, Texas, about 100 miles distant.

The theater was featured recently in the Amarillo Globe-News

  • Fundraising question

INDEPENDENCE, IA — I’ve recently become involved with the restoration on the Malek Theater and was reading a lot of helpful stuff on this site. What I really need to know though, is does a theater have to be a not for profit business in order to do fund raising for restoration?

  • Chicago Theatre information help

I am looking for some information regarding a collection of theatre memorabilia that my grandfather left to me.

I have hundreds of what I believe to be weekly movie programs (trifold 3 x 5 flyers) with approx. 6 movie names, pictures of stars and showtimes. All the theatres included were in Chicago and with the help of your website I have learned of their present status.

Some of the theatres are Avon, Calo, Garfield, Highland, Kedzie, Kedzie Annex, New Liberty, Louis, Jeffrey, Stratford, Oak, Rogers and many more.
