We have about 150 theatre style seats that came out of a Masonic Lodge. They come in banks of 3 or 4. Beautifully recovered. Would be perfect for a small theatre, church or ? We have unbolted them from the floor and they are ready to haul. We can assist with loading, and possibly delivery.

  • Whiteside Theatre loss negates previous historic recognition

CORVALLIS, OR — By a vote of 6 to 3, the Corvallis City Council voted today to support the appeal of the Whiteside Partners LLC allowing them to create a strip mall out of the historic building. Their decision which is final, overturns the Historic Resources Commission decision to protect the Whiteside Theatre under the City of Corvalils Land Development Code.

Brokeback Mountain screening at State Theatre

BAY CITY, MI — Fans from all over the country will be attending a special screening of the movie Brokeback Mountain on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the State Theatre in Bay City, Michigan.

There will be autographed posters and original costumes from the movie on display at the theatre.

This special screening is being sponsored by John Trudell (BayCityJohn), a member of the internet group The Ultimate Brokeback Forum. This is a great opportunity to see the film on the big screen, and to meet other passionate fans of great filmmaking. It has been suggested by a number of fellow fans of the film that the 2007 Oscar telecast not be viewed in favor of watching the film that should have won the Best Picture Oscar, Brokeback Mountain.

  • European cinema companies revolt over the Hollywood rush to DVD

European theaters are revolting against American studios that insist on releasing DVD’s of recent films sooner and sooner. Chains protested by refusing to show “Eragon” and now they’re doing the same for the recent hit, “Night at the Museum.”

The global dispute is about the future of a longstanding film distribution system in which movies are released in timed “windows” beginning with theaters, and then home videos, pay-per-view and, ultimately, television.

In many cases, as in Germany and Britain, these rituals were based on informal agreements with Hollywood film distributors, although in France a law bans DVD sales until six months after the initial appearance in a theater.

  • City gets sneak peek at theatre renovations

OCALA, FL — The Marion Thetare in Ocala is showing us a little piece of her new facelift.

Past the red brick facade, construction crews have gutted the building interior and removed almost every bright yellow and green reminder that this was the former home of the Discovery Science Center.

The new concrete floor is downstairs in the main theater’s future seating bowl. Crews have started to pack down the dirt foundation that will support the raised stage for live performances.

Senator Theater to be sold at a foreclosure auction on Feb. 21st

BALTIMORE, MD — Please Help Save Her.

The Senator Theatre is to be sold at a foreclosure auction Feb. 21, 2007. She is a wonderful, magnificent beauty that deserves to live on. Many of us have sworn off multiplexes in her favor.

“I’m extremely concerned that I’m about to lose my theater,” said Kiefaber, 54, who also owns the two-screen Rotunda Cinematheque and whose family long ago owned dozens of movie houses in Baltimore.

The Senator, at 5904 York Road, with its plush seats, 35-foot ceilings and elaborate murals about the history of entertainment, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The story was just posted in the Baltimore Sun newspaper on 2-6-07.

The Senator’s owner, acknowledged yesterday that the theater owes $90,000 on a $1.2 million mortgage.

Please visit the Senator Website for more info.

  • Heritage Status given to National Cinema

HULL, ENGLAND — The former National Picture Theatre in Hull has just been listed as a building of special historic importance by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The theatre has remained as a ruin since it was bombed in March 1941, destroying all but the facade of the 1914 bult cinema on Beverley Road. Ironically, the film being shown on that night was Charlin Chaplin in The Great Dictator.

It is hoped that the ruin will now be conserved and the former site of the auditorium opened up as a public space, it has been boarded up and unused since 1941.
