hahahaha. I was watching Ninja Assassin a few days ago and thought how cool it would’ve been if they converted that into 3d with all the blood spurting on screen. Slimshady, with 5 3D movies playing this weekend, will more projectors come in the next few weeks to show more 3D movies? The last time NIghtmare on Elm Street was in 3D was Freddy’s Dead (the last 10 minutes in red-blue 3D). I guess by Friday advance tickets will be on sale for Iron Man 2 in IMAX…wonder how good the DMR would look on a IMAX-lite screen come May 7.

Looks like they’re holding back until the summer season i guess. Once in awhile, there are sporadic power outages at this theater. Does it use the same power as the outer stores in the mall? I heard Panera had an outage. Maybe it’s time to upgrade the electricity for the theaters and use solar energy lol. Tomorrow Avatar is unleashed on Bluray, JJD, and the movie will still play this weekend in late nights in IMAX 3D.

moviebuff82 commented about Critic thinks movie intermissions should be revived on Apr 19, 2010 at 12:28 pm

jimpiscitelli, I think you’re right. “Gods and Generals” was the last major Hollywood release (wide) that had an intermission, and I took notice of that while waiting in line to buy tickets for “Daredevil” at the Loews (now AMC) Stroud Mall 7 in Stroudsburg, PA, a run-down theater. I think “Che” was the last indie movie to have an intermission since it ran four hours.

The last time I saw a movie with an intermission was during a second-run screening of “James and the Giant Peach” at what would become the Paramus Picture Show in Paramus, NJ during its run in 1996 with a group of middle-school kids from Slocum Skewes School and a reading teacher who read the book to me and my classmates before the movie came out. There was no intermission made for the movie, but what the projectionist did was stop the movie in the middle to allow the kids to go to the bathroom and or/ buy concession food before the movie resumed. This for a short movie is weird!!!

This is France’s version of IMAX-lite here in AMerica. I’m sure the french won’t be happy about it.

advance showtimes are not available for the 22nd for most movies at this theater save for the kenny chesney movie. Wonder if AMC is installing new projectors for the upcoming weekend? This also is common at east hanover and wayne and clifton commons.

there was a power outage today at this theater. It only lasted one hour from around 11 until 12:30 p.m.

avatar is back this weekend in imax 3d. Only 11 p.m. showing tonight. How to train your dragon will still play in imax 3d. Alice has two 3d showings. Clash is playing its third weekend in 3d. Wonder what next weekend of the 23rd will bring.

I know. Any word on if Alice in Wonderland will still play in both 3D and 2D? I was thinking of taking my cousin and my aunt to see it before it’s out of the theaters so that Disney could create a DVD/Bluray version of the movie in May for release in June. Also JJD, Avatar is coming out on home media one week from Friday. It won’t have any special features or commentary, just the film presented in its flat ratio as intended by Cameron and shown in the highest quality audio and picture possible. It will still look good in 2D, though.

Some people think that the mall that the theater is in is sinking due to the ground. I hope it doesn’t collapse!!!

How about NJ, CT, and PA theaters? With the digital changeover, many people who have worked with film projectors for a long time might get laid off and replaced by tech-savvy guys who will push a button and start a movie.

BTW, the first concert film in 3D will be showing at this theater from April 21-May 2….featuring Kenny Chesney. This past weekend was a close call at the box office, as the top 3 films averaged around $25 million. I think it will still be the top 3 for the weekend, even though there are a few new movies coming out that will do poorly (with the exception of Kick-Ass). JJD, any word on if ETX will come to this theater?

When I first went to this theater in 1995, before “Across the Sea of Time” started, they had this brief policy trailer showing Mr. Big Screen walking around the IMAX screen and opening the screen up, concluding with a helicopter shot of New York City before fading out. THere was also a light and laser show before the usher came out and welcomed people to the theater. DO they still do it? I haven’t been to this theater since 2000, and might check it out again now that this theater will be high-tech.

I hope AMC builds an exterior theater with stadium seating and digital 3D and not a liemax or ETX rather than run this place to the ground. This theater is probably the oldest General Cinema theater with THX to still operate in existence.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Clifton Commons 16 on Apr 13, 2010 at 1:43 pm

When I first went to this theater in 1999, it was the first time I went to a General Cinema since 1991, when the Totowa cinema was open. I saw new policy trailers before the movie and liked the mascot, Popcorn Bob. Too bad he got killed by Clip from AMC before Clip went into the sunset. Anyways, here’s the policy trailer that debuted in 1997 when the Essex Green (another GCC theater) 9 opened…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN-ym0IUBuA
It’s good that this theater won’t get a liemax but what about ETX? This theater as well as Essex Green and Bridgewater in NJ have THX.

This is the trailer that was shown at this and other Loews theaters during the 80’s…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcXO-iKaJ_Y
During the theater’s final years, big movies would play on multiple screens at both this theater and the meadow six, much like what happened at Paramus with the triplex and the tenplex before the AMC Garden State 16 opened.

BTW, when I first went to this theater in 1990 (as far as I can remember) when I saw the Duck Tales movie, I remembered this policy trailer…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcXO-iKaJ_Y
too bad AMC didn’t bring the jingle back when it acquired the chain four years ago.

nearly two years from now marks 10 years since this theater shut down to make room for a best buy. NOw with this economy, Best Buy might not survive for the next 100 years…an Office Depot closed on the same building as the AMC Outers. ACME was the next to be gone. Times have changed.

btw, slow weekend at the box office. One of my friends who works for amc, paul, saw some stupid horror movie called The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond, which is also playing in newark and in clifton commons. It’s not doing well at the box office, and it will be out of the theaters by next weekend. Horror movie tend to do poorly at this theater save for paranormal activity, which delivered blair witch like crowds to this theater. The original blair witch must’ve scared up a crowd at the old rockaway theaters. Now here comes two superhero movies opening a week apart…I think Kick-Ass will do better than The Losers and will do well until Iron Man 2 blasts the competition away.
