Funscape at Las Olas Riverfront was to the left of the escalators on the main level. I can not figure out why that theater never made it especially with all the condo’s downtown. It went from 23 to 15 after Sunrise cinema’s took it over then to 11 after Frank theaters took it over.
Went to this theater last night. AMC can’t fully get in there soon enough which is supposed to be late March early April. They have started some of the conversion like putting in the coke free standing soda machines. This theater is 21 years old and never been renovated except for adding digital projection long before anyone else did. The theater has holes in the walls, overflowing trash cans and dirty bathrooms. The Carmike chain didn’t give a damn at least at this theater about anything but making a profit. Even last night the box office was closed and tickets were sold at the concession stand. It eventually opened at 7pm. The manager said she could already see the difference in how AMC seems to be much more employee and patron oriented then Carmike ever was. Good riddance to a bad movie chain. Bring on AMC and big renovations.
This theater is now AMC 10 per this information from AMC corporate Facebook message to me. Please update
Thanks for reaching out! Carmike is indeed part of the AMC family now. For details on the Asheville theatre transition, feel free to ask them next time you stop by! -ES
The official closing is Monday January 16. The theater will be demolished to make way for a strip plaza, a Panera Bread and a Chipotle. Just what Asheville needs another strip plaza and more restaurants. We have very limited theaters here. UGH
I Know that in 64 it was the South Phila Drive In. I remember as it was the only time I was at the theater. It would be interesting to see fi someone can find when it changed names. To my knowledge it was operated by George Hamid who operated all the Atlantic City theaters and built the Stadium theater across the street which is now demolished.
All Broadway theaters operated as movie theaters at one time. All the Broadway house have photo’s of Broadway shows. If you look at the Palace it has more stage shows than movies. I think it’s cool that a theater that once operated as a movie theater and is now a legit theater shows all photos. If it was in the CT guidelines they would be deleting thousands of pictures. Happy New Year
all. Looking forward to another great year here on CT

I just saw your post from March 15 and yes it was. I was in Key West for 4 hours in 1998 on a cruise stop. If I can find my pictures I will try and upload them. It was awesome because it still looked like a movie theater?
Information is incorrect. See my last post. This theater is still a Carmike according to the staff and will be for the next few months. If someone has any other information please post it as I am anxious for AMC to get here. Thank you
Theaters 1-7 have been closed the past few weeks for renovation and installation of the recliners. Once they finish these 7 they will close theater 8-14. All theaters will become reserved seats. Not really sure how I feel about this. This chain is a first class chain.
Confirmed last night at this theater that this location will change to an AMC theater. I can only hope they convert it into one of their fork and dine theaters.
It wasn’t this drive in doowopcharlie. Must have been the Airport drive in
Coate, it also played at the Embassy on Broadway at the same time

They tried it at the Las Olas 23 and it didn’t work there either.

Does anyone know how to keep this as the cover photo?
New marquee photo added.
The theater officially closed last night. Please update status to CLOSED :(
I was at the grand opening Rivest. What a shame it never took off.

Thank you HDTV267. Awesome history of a great theater.
So thrilled this is going to bring AMC to Asheville NC

Rivest266 I would like to say thank you so much for finding all these wonderful opening ads for all these theaters that you do. :)
Fell in love with this theater last December when I was in town and saw Room there. Hope it lasts forever.
In the mid 70’s-earl 80’s it was a porn theater

Very cute independent theater in downtown Asheville.

Great news it will become a theater again.
