There was once a Lynn Theater in Marshall, TX. I remember seeing it in the 1950s/1960s.
An article about and a photo of this theater are posted on www.texasescapes.com
The Capri was formerly called the Saenger. It was a first-run downtown movie house. It went through several renovations over the course of its history. I believe it was a nightclub for awhile after it ceased showing movies.
In 1953 Shreveport had the following theaters:
Downtown – Strand, Majestic, Don, Joy, Saenger Neighborhood – Rex, Centenary, Broadmoor, Glenwood, Davis (Bossier), West End, Grove, Venus, Star, Ritz (the last two for Blacks only) Drive-Ins – Don, Joy, Leo, King’s Hwy, Barksdale, Sunset
The author Billy Holcomb has a book available about the theaters of Odessa, TX. The CoC might have copies.
A photo of the Showboat Theater is posted on www.texasescapes.com under Architecture, followed by Texas Theaters.
There is an article about the Joy Theater of Shreveport (owned by Joy Houck) on www.texasescapes.com
A photo of this theater may be seen on www.texasescapes.com
If you are interested I have some theater photos at this web site:http://www.texasescapes.com/Texas_architecture/TexasTheatres.htm
I believe the name of the film was “Door-to-Door Maniac.” The film was released in 1961 but it showed up again at the Jim in 1966 or 1967.
I attended the Jim once in the late 1960s and saw Johnny Cash in a real “B” picture. The Jim was a pretty small place.
