Opened by Pacific Theatres on August 24, 1966 as the Mission Drive-In with Frank Sinatra in “Assault on a Queen” & Marty Allen in “The Last of the Secret Agents”. A second screen opened in 1969 and it was renamed Mission San Luis Rey Drive-In. Two more screens were added in 1978. It was renamed New Valley Drive-In in 1979 and later became the Valley Drive-In. It was closed as the Valley Drive-In East & West in 1999. One screen was demolished in July 2016, the remainder was left intact and used as a swap meet. The entire site had been demolished by February 2020.

This theater opened on 24 August 1966. I confirmed this by searching through microfilm records at the Oceanside Public Library. The films shown that first night were “Assault on a Queen” and “The Last of the Secret Agents?”. The theater’s original name was the Mission Drive-In Theater. Within the first year of operation the name had changed to the Mission San Luis Rey Drive-In.

The original address for this drive-in was 3460 Mission Avenue. This was before the expressway was put in. You can still see part of the old entrance road across from the newer one.

Opened on 24/8/1966 as Mission Drive-in with “Assault on a queen” and “The Last of the secret Agents?”. Screen 2 opened in 1969 and renamed Mission San Luis Rey Drive-in. Screens 3 and 4 opened in 1978. Remamed New Valley Drive-in in 1979 and later Valley Drive-in, and then Valley Drive-in East & West. Closed in 1999. The site is still complete(except for one of the screens torn down in July 2016), and used as a swap meet(started in 1971).
Reopened as the Valley Drive-In on May 15th, 1970 with two screens. Grand opening ad posted.
Thanks to various angles, Google Street View images show that all four screens were still there in May 2015, the screens were gone but a swap meet was active in August 2017, but the entire site had been razed by February 2020.
