The first of three cinemas in Hixson to don the Northgate title. This one opened on March 23, 1972 with Angela Lansbury in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”. This was about the same time the adjoining Northgate Mall opened and it was originally a single screen operation. On September 12, 1974 two screens were opened that were outside the mall.
Sometime during the 1980’s the number of screens was expanded to eight and the management went from Martin to Carmike. The theatre closed in 2005.
