Opened Christmas day 1936 with the Joe E. Brown film Earth Worm Tractors.
Closing because they can’t afford the switch to digital. They will have special screenings of classic films. Too bad after gutting it a few years ago and making a great place to see movies.
Website still showing “Skyfall”

The London State Theater reopened under new ownership in July 2015 after a successful crowd-funding campaign to raise money for a digital projection system. The new owners have improved what was already a finely restored classic theater. Along with the new digital projector the new owners have also upgraded the screen and sound system and have expanded the menu offerings with restaurant quality fare including wine and beer. London is lucky to have this gem!
The facade has been brightened up. The building is white with yellow awning and red state letters. The new owner said he was finally taking a day off after 6 months. He showed an employee how to use the projector. Drove from Columbus and was not disappointed.
Celebrating one year reopened July 30 with Duck Soup.
Here is the official web site of the State Theatre. The house is currently not showing movies due to Ohio’s pandemic lockdown, but since March 17 they have been serving food for takeout and delivery. The State is a splendid asset for a small town like London, and I hope they can get through this difficult time and will soon be running movies again.
