The Thunderbird Twin Drive-In opened on July 1, 1965. In 1972 it was taken over by McLendon Theatres. It was closed around 1977. A business park now occupies the Thunderbird site.

Thanks Lost,Maybe Mike Rogers has somemore info.
No, sadly my book covers the year 1956.
I went to the Thunderbird Drive-In from 1973 until around 1977 before it closed down and demolished to build a Safeway warehouse/business park complex. It had a large colorful neon thunderbird on the screen facing out to Clay Road. Towards the end, it was only open during spring/summer/early fall in its last couple of years of operation.

I went to the Thunderbird all through my high school years at Spring Branch High. I took many girls there including my first wife when were still in school. I miss them both.

I remember going there when we lived with my dad circa 1967/68. I remember seeing The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I remember the mosquito PIC’s on the car dash and placing the speaker inside the car. Great memories.
