According to Grant Smith’s Utah Theaters, the Red Cliffs Cinemas opened at the mall in about 1996. Until April of 2012 Westates Theaters operated the cinema.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on April 17, 2012 that Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres had acquired 11 Westates theaters and the Red Cliffs Cinemas was one of them. The other acquired theaters are in St. George, Logan, Cedar City, Utah and Mesquite, Nevada.
The Tribune says that Westates Theaters was founded by Tony Rudman in 1958 and had 25 locations before Rudman’s death 2010. Tony Rudman Jr. says Westates will continue to operate its remaining locations in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
As for the four-screen Red Cliffs Cinemas, it was St. George’s only art house and closed in October 2016.
