Beaton, it presented musical hall & variety, but was equipped with projection equipment. Films were being screened from 1924, when it was part of the Thomas Ormiston circuit.
In March 1928 it was taken over by the Denman/Gaumont British Theatres circuit. In 1930 it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system.

The Odeon was closed on 1st November 1980. It was converted into a bingo club which closed in the late-1980’s. It then operated as a Leisureland nightclub, it was destroyed by a fire (an arson attack) in 1993. Housing has been built on the site.

Became a Pool Hall in the end, my wife worked there. It was handy when it was a cinema, we lived about 10 miles out in the country and the bus stop was just along the street.. Last bus at 1030 pm so you had to be sharp..
