The Beverly Theatre was the original theatre at the Columbus Square Mall. It was opened by Martin Theatres on March 25, 1965 with Julie Andrews in “Mary Poppins”. I remember going to movies there when I was a kid. I saw “Goldfinger” and “Herbie…” and lots more. It was closed on July 7, 1975 with a Walt Disney double bill “The Bears and I” starring Patrick Wayne & “The Shaggy Dog” starring Fred MacMurray. It was torn down to make way for mall expansion. Now the mall has been demolished. Martin Theatres operated almost every other theatre in the area.
The new theatre built at the renovated mall in 1975 to replace the Beverly Theater was the Columbus Square Twin (later Columbus Square Cinemas), which were operated by Martin Theatres & Carmike.

Did this theater’s name actually use the spelling Beverley, rather than the standard Beverly?
The Mall Hall of Fame (which uses the standard spelling Beverly) says that Columbus Square was dedicated on March 25, 1965. As the theater was inside the mall, it most likely began operating the same day the mall did.
This had an Supercalifraglisticexpialidocious opening on March 25th, 1965 with Mary Poppins. Grand opening ad in the photo section. Closed 1975.
