The People’s Theatre was on the Sanborn Maps (with a muslin roof) from about 1909 until 1920. It was taken over by Jake Linn in August 1916 and he announced in the Carlsbad Current that it would continue to be the home of Paramount Pictures.

Among the photographic collection of local historian Jed Howard is the People’s Theatre when it closed down for the influenza epidemic of 1918.

The theater was located between W. Mermod Street and W. Fox Street on the east side of the street, approximately where Brooks Flooring is located today.
