To kick off the official opening of Alamo Drafthouse Tempe May 24, 2018, and in anticipation of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” staff training days were held May 18 to 23.
The management notes: “Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Tempe features seven screens for new release movies, family and independent films, as well as the Alamo’s unique signature repertory programming. Our auditoriums are equipped with the highest quality Sony 4k digital projection and with RealD 3D presentations. State-of-the-art bi-amplified QSC digital audio systems provide full range multi-channel fidelity for faithful reproduction of audio soundtracks. We are also very proud to have 35mm projection for certain special screenings.”
Craig Paschich and Derek Dodd, who own the Arizona rights to Alamo Drafthouse and the Chandler location, plan 10 more in the next 10 years. The Tempe opening brings the total number of Drafthouses in 23 American cities to 34.
Their restaurant prepares a menu from scratch and offers quiet seat-side service. Guests are invited to come to the bar and enjoy cocktails and craft beers without attending a movie. As of all Alamo Drafthouses, a no cell phone policy is strictly enforced.
The Phoenix New Times notes LGE Design Build designed the seven-screen cinema with more than 750 recliners, ranging from 61 to 172 per auditorium.
During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022 Alamo Drafthouse dropped the Tempe theatre and two of their other theatres in the Phoenix area and they were taken up by a new company named Majestic Theatres, operating as cinemas with dine-in facilities and a full bar.
