The Canada Theatre was opened in 1915. It was remodeled on September 24, 1951. It was renamed Verdi Theatre on June 27, 1955. It was renamed Pagoda Theatre in 1978, screening Chinese films. On October 28, 1981 it was renamed Pussycat Theatre and began screening adult movies. On October 1, 1982 it was renamed New Yorker Theatre which closed in 1983. It was last operated from 1985 as the Le Milleau Theatre which closed in 1988.

I never visited this theatre but I remember walking by it several times when my Italian family was in Montreal, from Providence, to visit relatives in 1959 and 1960 and maybe later as well. I remember that they sometimes showed Italian films, as the theatre’s name might suggest, and was surrounded by the neighborhood where many Italian Canadians lived. I was always curious about the place and managed to find a few photos and newspaper ads which I have posted in the photo section.
5380 Boul. Saint-Laurent, building that once was the Cinema Verdi is now a parking lot, if Google Maps is to be believed.
This one went through many names. Canada in 1915 and remodeled on September 24th, 1951, renamed Verdi in 1955, renamed Pagoda in 1978 showing movies in Chinese, renamed Pussycat on October 28th, 1981 (Name moved from the current site of l'Amour), New Yorker on October 1st, 1982 and closed in 1983. It reopened as Le Milleau in 1985 before closing for good in 1988. Grand opening ads posted.
First ad appeared as the Verdi on June 27th, 1955 (La Presse and Montreal Star) It later placed ads in the Italian print media after.
