In the design and building stage, this was to be the Evertson Theatre and it was a new-build theater replacing a retail meat market. By its launch on December 9, 1917 the venue was the Eris Theatre. It was owned by Charles Parten who had previously owned the Royal Theatre. The theatre boasted no obstruction viewing in nearly three-quarters of its 486 seats and contained a theatre pipe organ. It opened with the film “The Slacker” starring Emily Stevens. The Eris Theatre converted to sound and was refreshed in 1939. It was still open in 1957.

The building remains, almost indistinguisable in use as insurance offices.
