Star Theatre

The Star Theatre opened on Henry Street in St. John’s in 1922 on the site of the earlier Star Hall (which had been opened in 1893 and destroyed by fire in 1920), with seating for 1,000 patrons. Some time after Newfoundland joined Canadian Confederation in 1949, Famous Players took over management of the theatre.

The Star Theatre closed in 1957 and, after being used as a fraternal meeting hall called the Star of the Sea Hall for decades afterward, was demolished in 2010 to make way for construction of the Star of the Sea condominium complex.
