George Cinema (I)

Located in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire. The Kilbirnie Picture House was opened by 1927 when it was operated by the Thomas Ormiston chain. By 1947 it was still in the Ormiston family, operated by H.S. Ormiston. From 1948 it was operated by Associated G.P. Cinemas, headed by George Palmer. They were still the operators in 1953 when it had been re-named George Cinema. It was closed in 1959 and the George Cinema name was transferred to the Radio City Cinema (It has its own page as the George Cinema (II) on Cinema Treasures). The former Kilbirnie Picture House was converted into a garage. It burnt down in October 2008.
