Managed by the Eng Wah Organization, the 4-screen White Sands Cineplex opened its doors on 1st February 1997 with a nautical flavour. The opening films included “101 Dalmatians” and “God of Gamblers”.

However, due to low patronage, it was closed in September 1999 and its premises has since been converted to retail and educational use.
