Sundance Drive-In

Boxoffice, June 1, 1970: “SUNDANCE, WYO. - Construction of a drive-in in Sundance was started in mid-April by Fred D. Tschetter, Sundance, and Gerald Bullard, Upton, partners. Opening of the ozoner originally was planned for early June but early phases of the building were delayed by inclement weather. Located just outside the city limits on the north side of Highway 585, the drive-in will feature a CinemaScope screen and will have 120 speakers. The sound system and projectors were installed by Bullard. Tschetter said he and Bullard, owner of the Upton Drive-In, formed a corporation, Sundance Theatres, Inc., to operate the airer.”

Boxoffice, July 20, 1970: “Jerry Bullard has opened his new 120-car drive-in at Sundance, Wyo. The theatre will be on a two-change-a-week basis, with bookings being on a circuit with Bullard’s Drive-In located in nearby Upton, Wyo.”

The 1976 Motion Picture Almanac included the Sundance with a capacity of 110 cars. The refreshed drive-in list in the 1977 MPA still had the Sundance, now owned by Good Will Inc.

A 1980 aerial photo showed a new Crook County School District administration building on a freshly razed patch of land just outside the city limits on the north side of Highway 585.
