The Tri-County Theatre opened as a triple screen theatre on June 11, 1975. It was located near the Cassinelli Square shopping center in the Cincinnati suburb of Springdale. It was operated by Mid-State Theatres. In 1980, two more screens were added, and it became the Tri-County 1-5.
The nearby Princeton Cinemas 1 & 2 in the Princeton Shopping Mall were renamed Tri-County 6 & 7. Loews closed down the Tri-County 6-7 theater after New Year’s Eve showings of “Dracula” and “Toys” in 1993.
Loews later sold Tri-County 1-5 to National Amusements who later would closed them.

These are actually two separate theatre buildings in separate shopping centers that, in their last decade of operation, were deceptively linked together as “one theatre” by then-operators Mid-States Theatres, maybe for the purpose of simplifying their location in the public mind.
Originally, the Tri-County Theatre at 11500 Princeton Pike was a three screen theatre near the Cassinelli Square shopping center, and the twin down the street at 11670 Princeton Pike was part of the Princeton Plaza shopping center and called the Princeton. In 1980, two additional screens were added to the Tri-County and it was rechristened the 1-5, while the Princeton’s name was changed to the Tri-County 6-7.
The 1-5 has been demolished. The 6-7 was gutted and a chain bookstore now occupies that space.
Wow no comments since 11/11/04!!!!!
Well no flicks since then either!
TRON and STAR TREK III had 70mm screenings here.
I think what Tisloews meant was it is a big city for such few comments. How about it Cincy did anyone ever have a story here.
I worked here from ‘94 – '99 so was there for the transfer from Loews/Sony to National Amusements. We all took a pay cut as a result of the transfer.
edited version of this appears on the Princeton Cinemas page of this site Princeton Cinemas started as a one-screen…or one “house” as they called it. Then went to a two-screen in the mid 70’s. I worked at Princeton Cinemas from about 1975 to about 1979, with Craig Burk, Sharon Roe, Guy, Kim Hicks, Lauren Burk, Scott Levy, Don Fessenmeyer, Jennifer Lovett, others I can’t recall, and the all time love of my life, always will be, Linda McKinney. I’m Mike Warden. Tore a lot of tickets, kissed Linda as often as possible, sloshed a river of Glo-Coat onto its wood parquet floor, and said “Down the hall and to your right” a million times! Manager was Jim Cummings. Cummings was difficult to work with, and seemed perpetually annoyed, especially for such a young guy. Still, he was always direct with us about what he wanted and he always gave me a fair deal! Assistant manager was Wayne Grady, what a great guy! Easy to work for, but no pushover, we all gave him 100%. Grady had a HUGE Dodge Charger with a teeny-tiny 225 in it! I’ll never forget that! We always got Disney and Richard Pryor movies! When I started, Pryor’s Bingo Long movie was showing. The crew we had was very tight and we did a lot of things together. It was a GREAT job for a high school guy…especially since we got free movie passes. I remember seeing The Deep there, a few months before I started working there. Saw Jaws there, saw The Sting there; The Sting must’ve been there for over a year it seemed like. I was CRUSHED when I saw it had been demolished…used to go there once in awhile and dream. Princeton Cinemas is still gone…but lives on in my soul, along with my little red-haired popcorn girl.
I remember seeing Who framed roger rabbit ? , Cocktail (yes i saw it in theaters) & Titan A.E. in 2000 . I’m not sure if they had a name change or not by that time. it was the last time i went there. In 88' with roger & cocktail playing at that time i remember peaking in another theater during a trip to the rest room hearing huge explosions & action it was a known film that was generating lots of buzz it was called “Die Hard” . Awesome !
July 11th, 1975 grand opening ad in photo section.
I remember seeing the original Poltergeist in 1982. Was one of my favorite theaters in the 1980’s.
