News About This Theater

Built as a single-screen and opened July 7, 1969 with “MacKenna’s Gold”. By October 1973 it had been divided in half. It was of the era when Loews was decorating with the turquoise and purple color scheme, black-and-white graphic on the lobby wall and script-style ‘Loews’ on the signs. Last operated by National Theatre Corp as the Eastwood Cinema 1 & 2

Closed on October 24, 1991 with Denzel Washington in “Ricochet” & Joe Pesci in “The Super”. The building currently houses retail.

I know this theater made it until Summer 1989 as I saw “Ghostbusters II” there as a young lad. I think it closed just as the Boulevard Centre was opening in the early 1990’s.

After looking through the Youngstown Vindicator archives, the cinema’s last day of operation was October 24th, 1991 . The last film that played there were Ricochet and The Super.

Eastwood Mall, according to their current directory still has 2 theaters in the complex … Encore Cinema – Great East Plaza which is part of the Eastwood Mall complex, and Regal Cinema in the mall with stadium seating and 14 screens.
