I was the manager on and off for 9 years , this theatre was closed by a group of incomperent Morons. FRom top to bottom!!! When it was booked properly it made money!!
I was truly sad to hear of Ralph’s passing. He will be missed on many levels. He and his lovley wife Gloria Were class people. And i enjoyed every minute I spent in thier company. My deepest symppathy

There was a Steinway Theatre now a DR. Jays but it was closed down in the 50’s. At one time we had three theatres on Steinway The UA Astoria on 30th ave The Loews Triboro on 28th ave and Steinway and the Cameo Steinway between 25thave and 28th ave on Steinway. The Cameo changed its name to the Olympia Then it became a porno theater.
in the 70’s the Rockefeeler group Alton Marshal and the gang saw the hall stand in the way of progress the space where it stands is prime real estate. I really belive they did not execpt any one standing in there way, they figured oh there will be tears and some happy memories told to the papers they did not know just what the Hall means to many many people, remember they were buisnessw men not show people. Boy were they wrong!!

howardbhaas. I made an error with the closing of the state that will close at the end of the month. As for the e-walk i work for loew’s and the sale to regal is going on> It looks like unless something changes it will be regal. as of jann 27 Amc will take over loew’s and for the first time in 102 years, there will be no loew’s theaters
I also had wht it was the only way i could get more than a handful of hockey games, that they would show on free t.v. How many of the organ fans remember Jack Ward
HI EDsolero. At that time Disney under Bob Jane was running the hall, so i was moved from the costume dept where i was the office assistant, to the page program, i became the lead trainer, for the first class of what was being called pages.One very funny moment was when a group of Managers for the hall were standing in the lobby when a large number of deadheads ( were you one) had them in the middle of a circle and they were dancing around them. We were on the first mezz looking down laughing because the managers looked like they were under attack, we though we were have to call the paramedics to give them CPR. Also I think it was the first night a deadhead jumped off the first mezz into the orchestra to show his devotion to Jerry and the Dead.
Thanks Irv!I just laughed my butt off!!! In truth I used the name Ben Franklyn! Just lke my engagment to Sandra Bullock, We kept it quiet so the Paparazzi would not bother me. In fact if you ever ask her she would still prtened not to know me. This of course ended when she got married, i then had to break it off
No Irv they don’t that ended abot 1979, and yes i was there for “Robin Hood” I Liked that film it was fun! I"ll tell you one story i hope you find funny a friend and i were rolling up copies of the declaration of independence to give out in 1976 for the film"1776" well after a while we got bored and decieded to sign our names on a couple of them. I wonder if any kid got an f for nameing Frank Devlin as one of the signers of the declaration?
Hi Irv! The Loew’s E-Walk will be run by Regal cinemas. and the State theater in the virgin mega store is now closed. oh yes the Music Hall is the greatest part of my life! I started out as a usher and the worked my way to be the office assistant in the costume dept.I was fortunate to work with many wonderful people some are still firends of mine to this day. as i wrote on the music hall web site, if you could look at my heart you will find the Music Hall logo!!
As a man who wored 10 years at the Hall from 11/70 until 3/81, and being a member of the show people commitee to save the Hall, I want to thank you all for showing much love to a place that if you look at my heart you will find the Music Hall logo on it. Thank You all very much. Because of you all the Hall Lives!!
Irv, Talk about hitting the nail on the head. I have been a theater manager for about 25 years now and 10 before that at Radio City Music Hall. The list of theaters that are no longer with us just makes me shake my head throw up my arms and say it’s over. We now have these faceless,no history,empty, rooms with a screen in it. I grew up going to loew’s theaters, mine was the triboro in astoria. but thats when theaters were theaters were theaters and they were run by theater people, not bean counters who were told in a class room how to run a theater,insread of running one. As of jan 26th there will no longer be any loew’s theater, after 102 years that is sad.I can only thank you and the rest of the good people on this site and other theater web sites, for keeping theater history alive
