The bottom of these passes read: “KINDLY BE SEATED BY 7:40 PM” and “BLACK TIE”. Also “STALLS 2 GUINEAS” with Assigned Seat Numbers.

DavidZornig commented about Pitt Theatre on Sep 24, 2022 at 11:42 am

The parking lot is reserved parking for a complex called The Lofts On 5th Apartments, whose rear entrance as well as the entrance to Crossbones Tavern is at the back of the lot, inside an older A frame brick structure. Both those entrances were given an address of 507 S. Evans, and a one story building built in 1928 next door to the lot, today uses the former theatre’s address of 509. I’ve added a mid `60s photo with the Pitt Theatre marquee in the background center, but it had been modernized since the 1957 yearbook photos in the 2019 comments above. The neighboring Ridgeway’s Opticians and Rexall signs are unmistakable, as well as the shoe store’s presence. Also below is a link noting Charles C. Benton Sr. as the architect, as well as confirming the address, year built and demolished status.

Address in 2906 Hennepin Avenue, confirmed via Google Street View & Wiki. Opened as Lagoon Theatre on Saturday June 3, 1916, not 1913. Also confirmed. Grand Opening print ad added to gallery. Below is a January 2022 article about a potential restoration with blue prints and planned seating for 2500. Not sure if the plan went forward.

DavidZornig commented about Orpheum Theatre on Sep 18, 2022 at 10:40 am

Stage Door Theatre mentioned in a 2011 comment, was located at 121 W. Johnson Street, on the back side of the Orpheum Theatre in the same building. I added a September 17th, 1982 print ad of a triple feature, via James Stegall to the gallery. It also hosted “Rocky Horror Picture Show” until June 1978, which then moved to the Majestic. Below is a Rocky Horror Wiki link, with a March 1976 print ad. The link says it was a 350 seat annex theatre that opened in 1969, and was still open in 1982 per the above print ad.
I added a CT page for the Stage Door Theatre, so the Admins can determine if it warrants it’s own page or not.

DavidZornig commented about Edens I & II Theaters on Sep 14, 2022 at 11:14 pm

What would be “Splash”, had it’s “Special World Premiere Sneak Preview”, November 18th, 1983 at Edens Theatre, without naming the film. The print ad I added to the gallery, has an address of 303 Skokie Hwy, Northbrook. Edens I used that address in other Chicago Tribune print ads found in a search as far back as 1971. The lack of Edens I on the ad, could have been LA promoters phoning it in, and not knowing there was a distinction between Edens I & II.

“It Should Happen to You” is on TCM tonight starring Judy Holiday, Peter Lawford & Jack Lemmon. The billboard that is the focus of the film, is to the right of the entrance of the International Theatre. It was released the same year the theatre was demolished. Link with photo below.

Currently has operated as Dale and Gail’s Music and Art Gallery for the past 7 years. Link below indicates it opened in 1927, but that may have been the name change from Amuse Theatre.
