I hope you guys aren’t pulling my leg on this. The Sunrise Indoor is the Easternmost Theater. I don’t know the number. However, it’s not on the same side as of the corridor as the other theaters. It’s past the main concession and make a left. You pass the satellite concession, and a bank of doors. It’s alone, by itself. There aren’t any other theaters near it. I have a feeling though, you all know where it is.
What I am saying is that it’s just a shadow of what it was I recall when the theater was new, and it was a grand place. Maybe I overstated it. However, well, it’s not what it was in the 1980s. The place is in decent condition. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that I’m surprised it doesn’t have tagger graffiti. That was probably prejudicial. It was a decent house, that’s correct. I would be going there if they did not build the Island Sixteen where I live. It may also be that I think I’m still angry that they tore down the drive in screen. Excuse me, I sometimes have a tendency to overstate things.

I was at the theater just today, and they did not cut that Sunrise Indoor in half. The look was updated. The movie in there on October 17, 2003 was Shark Tale. The hallway makes an S curve just before the theater, which has two sets of double doors. Oh, by the way, bway agrees, I forgot he mentioned it on the Bay Shore Sunrise Drive In Page, which means I only brought the subject to this one. I think he’s rightfully upset with me for not mentioning that. Also, the snack bar is now the loading dock, it’s in back.
I was there, and, well, let’s just say I’m surprised it doesn’t have any tagger graffiti. I remember the multiplex in its heyday and it’s just a shadow, neigh, haunted house version of its former self. They need to fix the laminate by the men’s room sinks. The canvas along the sides need to be cleaned, at least in theater one. If you want to go to a Regal, go to the one on Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma.
By the way, I forgot to add they also accept volunteers, and it is not a religious theater as the title suggests. This year’s productins included Biloxi Blues, and South Pacific.
It should live. However, they plan to have another season, and I’m told they almost closed down before. I would suggest that people go there because the caliber of performance is high. This is from a theater student. It’s really like any other community theater. However, they had a meeting last year because the rent was raised. That was why they started the concert series. They still produce musicals, the current one being Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. I encourage people to come and see the shows because they are excellent.

I would give you the link, but I write it wrong somehow, but they have a website, and they put on musicals. They almost closed down, believe it or not. By the way, they are now putting on Doo Wop shows, and have an Elvis Show coming up.

THERE WILL BE DOUBLE DOORS ON YOUR LEFT HAND SIDE. WALK THROUGH THOSE DOORS AND YOU ARE IN THE ORIGINAL SUNRISE DRIVE IN INDOOR.
NOW; AS FOR THE SUNRISE CONCESSION
DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING AT ALL COSTS. JUST WALK AROUND THE LEFT HAND SIDE. IT IS IN THE REAR OF THE BUILDING, ALL CEMENTED OVER.

You go passed the present snack bar, as far as you can go without walking into a theater. You should now be by the theaters in the rear. You turn left and go as far as you can go. There will be a wall on your right and doors on your left. Just walk through one of those doors and you are in the theater. Some of the longer standing employees may be able to help you if you can’t find it. By the way, if you go around the left side of the building you can see where the old snack bar was. It’s cemented over now. Also, the theater no longer has a curtain.

I know the subject turned to the to the Sunwave, but I would like to say that the drive in in Patchogue, New York, started as the Patchogue Sunrise Indoor-Outdoor All Weather Drive In. If you dare to go to it, the indoor part of the drive in is still in use. It was the farthest theater to the last time I was there. The original concession is boarded up. A little piece of history about the drive in. For those of you who don’t know about all weather drive ins on Long Island, they originally started by playing the same film both indoors and out, but they were later twinned so the outdoor and indoor played different movies. The same was true for the Smithtown Drive In. I just figured I would add something to this conversation.

I would like to say that I saw the pictures on the website above. Somebody should purchase this theater, or speak to East Patchogue Village Leaders to restore for, maybe, a playhouse. Then again, I’m a Theater Major as a returning student at Stony Brook, so I may always think this way. However, I recall seeing Grease there and having the majestic, perhaps Googie styling, with the curtains lit with flood lights surround the seats in all their glory. A film about the 1950s in a 1950s theater. I think the last movie I saw there I ran out on, I got frightened at Ghostbusters. That was after they made it a multiplex. Why shouldn’t they fix it for that? We have a professional playhouse in Pathchogue, why not an amateur one?

Gaudy neon, apparently you don’t remember the Sunrise Drive In of the 1960s. The first movie I saw there was Barefoot in the Park. I remember going to that drive in, which was the first in New York State, and opened in the 1930s. When we lived in Brooklyn, to be specific East 40 Street between Church Avenue and Linden Boulevard, we knew we were going to that drive in when we said “Sunrise”. When we visited where I live now, it was the Patchogue Sunrise. However, I recall the neon sign to be a flashing spectacle that was added some time after the theater opened. If you ask me they were wrong to tear it down. We need flashy neon, and the stuff drive ins brought to the landscape.
Does anyone know of any bitmapable (Is that a word?) images of the Loews Kings in its heyday?

Everyone should see shows at this theater. Their production of Cabaret was excellent.
