July 4th Observance -- Fridley Theatres Debate
In nearly all other cases, Cinema Treasures is closed for public holidays.
However, we have received a large number of emails from moviegoers trying to contact R. L. Fridley and Fridley Theatres to either commend the owner of the mid-western theater chain for refusing to show Michael Moore’s new film “Fahrenheit 9/11” or scold him for his decision.
First, we would like to note that we are NOT Fridley Theatres and if you want to email the company, please visit their website. Second, we are more than happy to open a debate here on the news page, so please feel free to post your thoughts.
For more news about the film and its possible influence on Hollywood, read today’s New York Times, which also features a photo of the Gateway Theatre in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Gary Flinn has also sent us a link to the Ann Arbor News story covering Lila Lipscomb’s visit to the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor yesterday.
For more information about Fridley Theatres’ decision to ban the film from its screens, read today’s Chicago Sun-Times.
Thanks and if you were celebrating, hope you had an enjoyable Independence Day.

On the other hand I have a 20 year old son in Iraq right now and he supports what the president is doing I will back him 100%. He is at ease with where he is and content in what the president is trying to do. We never thought anything like 9/11 could happen and I am sure no one wants anything like that to take place again.
The sad thing is we don't hear that much about what good has been done since we have been in Iraq, like the schools being in operation, the hospitals functioning, the electric up and running, the oil flowing again to boost their economy. We may have abused some of the prisoners but haven't beheaded innocent people. Sadam is out of power the brutal murderer that he is.
When you look at a few of the major cities here in the US and the homicide rates that they have where american citizens have killed each other and the number of casualties in Iraq it has to make you wonder about what people are so negative about in the war situation. Maybe they should concentrate their efforts right here at home as they say the government should. Remember the government officials are elected by us.
Well so much from my soap box.
I am thankful for Cinema Treasures and the enjoyment it brings me and what it stands for.
