Digital Film switch could signal end of historic movie theaters
BUFFALO, NY — With us quickly approaching a time when studios will supposedly stop making film prints available, the Huffington Post looks at the effects on historic theaters. They focus on local gems such as the Palace and the Riviera and their struggles in making the conversion.

Research shows 52% of screens in Europe converted to digital
While single-screen operators are still lagging behind, European cinemas have accelerated in their digital conversion. According to a study, 52% have now made the jump and recently it hasn’t just been because of 3D.

Ionia Theatre enters the digital era
IONIA, MI — With a little help from the city, the Ionia Theatre is entering the digital era. They’ll soon be doing away with 35mm as they convert their two screens to digital projection. Eventually, they will do away altogether with sending/receiving films through mail.

VOD rides to the rescue of Indie Film
With more and more success stories, independent film distributors are realizing that there’s a robust market out there for VOD. Recent releases like “Margin Call” and “Melancholia” have made at least half of their revenue from the platform instead of relying solely on theaters initially.

Small-town movie theater goes digital
HARMONY, MN — As reported in July, the Jem Theatre has been having some problems raising money for a digital conversion. Minnesota Today announced they were able to raise money for a used digital projection but still had to pay for the bulk of it on a loan.
They’ll only be on the clear once they pay the money back and even then, they still need to continue building attendance. With so few people around the area period, the situation poses quite the challenge.
