posted by Don Kirk on July 1, 2005 at 5:02am

DUNSMUIR, CA — The California Theater reopened on June 26th with live stage productions and silent films accompanied by the theater’s pipe organ (next year), banquets, weddings, etc. all are welcome at our newly reopened theater.

Silent movies and a Charlie Chaplin impersonator on Fri, July 8th. Silent movies (railroad oriented including the General) on Sat July 9 & Sun 10th.  A theater organist is bringing in an electronic theater organ and playing it for those events.

The Pacific-West-Coast Battle of the bands (rock) semi-finals and finals will be held in the theater Dec 9th. & 10th.  For entry info, contact Don Kirk donkirk@institutearts.org.

We’re even building a Radio & Television station in it; as well as an audio/video production house.  Our third floor ballroom will reopen in 2006; as will the new mystery dinner house (in the old Masonic theater on the 3rd. floor.

More volunteers are needed in all areas of the theater & broadcast stations.  We are a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization.

Boy, do I wish I was over there! I play for silent film presentations in the UK [next one the Scarborough Film Festival up in North Yorkshire]. But silent shows are becoming rarer with fewer programmes around. I wish you all the very best and loads of support for this great venture!! Terry Ladlow [musicman7@tiscali.co.uk]

Terrific! I'm a big theatre-organ enthusiast, and love the fact the original Wurlitzer will return to its home! I live in Oregon, and will certainly try to make my way down to Dunsmuir to check this baby out!
