My company, Stereo Vision Systems supplied 3D projection optics to most of the major theatre circuts and to many independents in the US and Canada from 1971 to 1985. I have a passion for Movie Theatres, am an old chief projectionist, am retired (from Training and Development Career), and would like to consider helping with the message board. I operate a huge fan website but have not operated a message board. In any case I'd like to provide time to the support of this fine organization of other Motion Picture Theatre nuts. I think the site is wonderful and fills a long-time need of mine to remain connected to the industry.

Moderating a message board is not an easy task. I tried it for a while and you can never keep everyone happy. Good luck to anyone that takes this on...

You have to be 60 and up to answer this question. I was in the navy from 63 to 68 and use to go to the Hillbilly Ranch. I was telling my friends New Years eve and they told me it was a gay bar and started kidding me. I know it wasnt gay when I went there (not that there is anyting wrong with it as Jerry Seinfield says)but I was looking for some one who might remember the place. Any help will be appreciated.

My father-inlaw has told me there was a theater called the bickford in paterson n.j. at one time can you tell me if it is so and ehere it was.

Although I'm not saavy enough to moderate and/or organize a message board, I think it would be cool to have one on here.

Just a suggestion:

This board really needs a private message function. There is a lot of outstanding information posted, some are with questions regarding the theatres, which is fine, but space consuming. It would be nice if the questions could be asked in private, which will allow only the theatre information to be posted. Discussions are great, we all learn a lot from them, but at times they can distract from the subject of the theatre.

Does anyone know if there's an archive or a link that could tell me what movies WERE playing 'back in the day'. I'm specifically looking for what TWO movies were playing at the Overlook Drive-In in Poughkeepsie New York on June 1, 1976? It's part of local trivia contest. I sent an e-mail to them since they are still in business but haven't heard back. The on-line archives for the Poughkeepsie Journal only go back to 1999. I'm getting stumped.

Hi Everyone,
I am currently in pre-production of a feature documentary entitled "Sacred Cinema".
The long and short of it is that I am going to trek across the planet in search of the world's most unique movie theaters. By in large in Canada (where I am from) at least, I think many cinemas have lost the plot when it comes to providing a meaningful cinema experience. The documentary will touch on cinema etiquette and what theaters are doing to improve audience cooperation. I also want to take a look at the worlds kookiest home theaters and get an inside peek at why staying at home is a reasonable option for many people. I want to visit a wide array of cinemas. From a shanty village in India to a luxurious cinema palace in New York. Please if you have any suggestions for cinemas to feature I am open to suggestions as I am shortlisting as my research comes to an end in the next couple weeks. I am not looking for pure visual esthetics, though visually it helps if the cinema is a little offbeat - I want to find theaters that have different, odd or strange policies that help make the movie going experience memorable.

I will be launching a website in the coming weeks to create some buzz around this project. I will also be seeking some assistance during production in my shortlisted cinema's towns and cities.

On another note- thank you for this website as a resource. It has assisted me in my research greatly.

I think a better way of managing the forum threads will be by configuring the system to enable your current staff to handle more threads at a time and the task demands special skills.

I have been involved in such a task earlier but the number of threads here is enormous as compared to what i have done. It is kind of obvious that many other are using some sophisticated methods, so hopefully that might suffice.

Also the real problem will be managing the spam and the system configuration can be of great help in controlling that, i mean that is the best way of managing the system is by keeping things up and ready.
