Vogue Theatre Reopens

posted by Simon Overton on September 6, 2007 at 7:55am

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — My long-time friend and theater buff/walking encyclopedia; Jim Lewallen, former door man at the famous Castro Theatre, has kindly called me with happy news of the 1910 Vogue Theatre.

Apparently, it closed, only for a short while, and it was thought that the dreaded wrecking ball was heading its way.

“Not so” says Jim... “because she was snapped up by a small non-profit group and reopened after some volunteer TLC.”

Interested “CT” readers should go to the San Francisco Chronicle where you will see an article with pictures by Ruth Stein.

Well done fair city by the bay... now let’s get the Metro, Alexandria, Alhambra, New Mission... and others OPEN AGAIN!!!

EXCELLENT!!! I try to attend the Vogue as often as I can and I have had nothing but the best movie experiences there. I cannot stand the crowds and bustle of the downtown multiplexes (which are surprisingly VOID of a cinema-going atmosphere...right down to the horrid faux Top 40 music they play).
Thanks for the info.
