The Lyric opened in the 1930s and is located on Park Street in Hartford's Frog Hollow section. It has been closed since the 1970s and is currently abandoned. The Lyric is one of many city theaters that have now been lost or forgotten.

If I won a $300 million lottery THIS would be the theatre I chose to refurbish. The Lyric has been closed for about 30+ years and the decrepit roof has allowed water to pour in and ruin much of the interior. The Lyric on Park Street which is known as New England's Hispanic Main Street. It could be successful as a Hispanic cultural and performing arts center with some Spanish movies also shown. However, it will cost many tens of millions of dollars to restore, and that is what is keeping it from happening.

Was this theater ever used as retail space?
Basile Baumann Prost & Associates, Inc. (BBP Associates) is an economics and real estate development advisory firm. This is a clip from their list of projects on their website:

"Hartford, CT— Conversion of the old Lyric Theater into office and retail uses."

Maybe they "advised" someone and it didn't happen.

An Austin organ Opus 1379 Size 3/7 was installed in the Lyric Theater in 1926 at a cost of $7,000.

Here is an article from 2004 about turning the Lyric into artist housing and studio space.

Trying to expose the Lyric's Story.

I work for the Hartford Public Library Park Branch in the Frog Hollow Neighborhood and am searching for any old photos or information on the history of the Lyric Theater. Does any one have any leads on historical facts about the Lyric?
