The Pavilion Cinema was built in the 1920's and closed in the 1950's. It originally featured and cinema and ballroom. The facade, including a single dome, is still somewhat of a strange sight in the market town of Cowbridge.

Sometime after closure it was used by the local council as a garage for rubbish trucks which accessed through the rear of the building into the auditorium; during this time the facade was left intact and peering through the original doors you could still see the original oak staircase.

The facade has now been fully restored and the building converted to office use.

This very unusual cinema was one of the few 16mm static cinemas in Wales. Most 16mm cinemas were portable fit ups that moved from village to village giving presentations in village halls and miner's institutes.
