Opened in the late-1970's or early-1980's, this was one of several movie houses in the greater Charleston area that was under the General Cinema banner(which also owned and operated Ashley Landing and Northwoods Mall)

The mall opened in 1981. AMC closed the cinemas on April 13th, 2008. Southeast Entertainment is planning a new 16-plex for 2009-2010.

I was at the CITADEL before it opened. Craig Zacker was sent there along with an assistant from Augusta,Barry Morrison to help start the cinemas from day one. I drove over there and was impressed at how nice the theatre was. Barry Morrison was led to believethat he would manage the new cinemas, but what would i say, probably office politics kept Barry from it. He soon said to heck with it. Barry may have a whole different take on it. One thing was certain on those large opening night crowds , Barry was not getting a per centage of Concessions. That Hurt the most. And people not keeping their word.

Barry, if you decide to write about the theatres ; cinema treasures has all the GCC theatres listed under chains,But i never noticed Regency 1.2.3. listed. I could have overlooked it.There are so many. You might tell Charles that GEORGIA SQUARE CINEMAS 1.2.3.4. are listed.I hope he could add more to Zack's memory. We owe him that much for being a hell of a theatre manager and close friend. My son Sean has his middle name Craig!

Southeast Cinema Entertainment of Charlotte, NC acquired the Citadel Mall Cinema 6 from AMC and reopened it. They operated it until Labor Day 2008 at which point they closed and demolished it, replacing it with a 16-screen IMAX cinema. It reopened as "Citadel Mall IMAX Stadium 16" on October 2, 2009.

I wish I could get Barry to write about this theatre. He along, with two other managers, one from Augusta and Columbia ran this place until GCC could decide on who would manage it.
He has all the infi on getting on CT and was excited about this site, but I have found out from other folks i worked in business, that while they will sit somewhere and yap about the good old days of the theatre business, only one has taken to CT.
And alot of these guys have Great stories on theatres From AUGUSTA to ASHEVILLE,but they just won't do it.They enjoy the heck out of reading all my posts on CT,but will not add to them.

Oh,they
